At WÖHR, we firmly believe that our innovative parking systems can make an important contribution to sustainability, especially in the construction sector. The development of sustainable parking solutions has been driven by an urgent need for more efficient use of urban spaces and a lower ecological footprint. Through our products and activities, we want to play a large part in making the cities of tomorrow smarter, more efficient and more environmentally friendly.

Sustainability grows with us - 15 new fruit trees for the future

Sustainability is more than just a concept for us - we actively put it into practice! We have planted 15 fruit trees next to our production site to contribute to biodiversity and the green design of our company premises.

Research and development

WÖHR continuously invests in research and development to create innovative and energy-efficient parking solutions for cars and bicycles and support you in achieving the sustainability goals of your company.

Product design

WÖHR products are designed to meet rigorous sustainability criteria, including the use of environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies, and the integration of electric vehicle infrastructure. The devil is often in the details. The metal platforms in WÖHR car parking systems, for example, use a special zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy coating that is more corrosion-resistant and resilient than hot-dip galvanised steel and has a 70 percent lower CO₂ footprint. That’s because there is no need for transport to the galvanising plant and the manufacturing process is more environmentally friendly.

Consulting and support

WÖHR offers comprehensive advice and support, as project developer, architect and planner, in the development and implementation of customised, sustainable parking solutions.

Environmentally friendly location

As part of its commitment to sustainability, WÖHR uses only green electricity at its Friolzheim location. At the end of 2023, the company commenced a comprehensive renovation project to improve the energy efficiency of its office building. This included removal of the old oil heating system, the installation of heat pumps, radiant ceiling panels in the offices and triple-glazed windows, the renovation and insulation of the façade, and the partial insulation of the roof. The production buildings are scheduled for renovation in 2025, which will involve replacement of the ventilation and heating system.

WÖHR car parking systems help to reduce traffic and promote efficient parking solutions, thus contributing to the decarbonisation of mobility.

The incorporation of car parking systems within urban development projects enables the sustainable use of urban space. Condensed parking creates space for residential and green spaces, improves the urban climate and increases quality of life.

Thanks to their modular design, WÖHR car parking systems adapt flexibly to changing urban requirements, support population growth and new mobility trends, and promote the long-term sustainability and resilience of cities.

Parking garages promote investment in infrastructure, increase the attractiveness of commercial and residential areas and create jobs, strengthening the local economy.

Improved mobility planning

Relocating parking spaces to mobility hubs ensures the more efficient use of public roads, reduces the number of vehicles cruising for a parking space and improves the flow of traffic. The provision of cycle paths increases safety for cyclists.

Officially certified

First car parking system with EPD certificate

Our Parklift 450 is the first parking system with EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification. The certification confirms the high sustainability potential thanks to a long service life and the recyclability of 95 % of the materials. Our Combilifts and Platforms are also in the process of certification. Our commitment to transparency towards our customers remains one of our strategic pillars and we are still the only company worldwide to have completed an EPD published in Environdec.
In addition, numerous projects with WÖHR parking systems have received excellent LEED and BREEAM ratings, highlighting their outstanding environmental performance.

Our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

World leaders came together in 2015 and made a historic promise to secure the rights and well-being of everyone on a healthy, thriving planet when they adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Agenda remains the world’s roadmap for ending poverty, protecting the planet and tackling inequalities.

The 17 SDGs, the cornerstone of the Agenda, offer the most practical and effective pathway to tackle the causes of violent conflict, human rights abuses, climate change and environmental degradation and aim to ensure that no one will be left behind. The SDGs reflect an understanding that sustainable development everywhere must integrate economic growth, social well-being and environmental protection. Implementation of the Agenda requires the cooperation of all stakeholders at a global, national and local level.

As urbanisation progresses, the volume of traffic in cities continues to increase. Our customised parking systems optimise space utilisation, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, minimising stress for commuters, residents and visitors as they navigate our cities. We are committed to sustainable urban development and are doing our bit to improve quality of life in cities.

11 Sustainable cities and communities

Green spaces are vitally important for sustainable cities. WÖHR creates additional parking space and protects green and residential areas by relocating parking spaces underground. We are thus helping to create a greener cityscape and contributing to sustainable cities. Our products support the transition to green mobility and can be used in the design of liveable cities where people want to live and work.

12 Responsible consumption and production

We use resources responsibly and offer our customers sustainable solutions. Our eco-friendly parking systems are designed for durability and energy efficiency. The WÖHR Parklift 450 is the first parking system to receive an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), documenting its environmental footprint. As part of our active commitment to a green future, our headquarters in Friolzheim runs entirely on renewable energies.

13 Climate protection activities

Our environmentally friendly products offer numerous advantages over conventional parking solutions. For example, they use fewer resources during production and installation, which minimises their impact on the environment. In operation, they generate significantly fewer CO₂ emissions, which helps to improve air quality in cities. By reducing the volume of traffic cruising for parking, our smart parking systems help reduce environmental pollution and increase the quality of life in urban areas, making us a pioneer for climate-neutral cities.
